Maarten van de Voorde

Maarten van de Voorde joined West 8 in 1998 and has worked as a project director for architecture and urban design since 2003. As project architect and project leader he worked on projects in Belgium and France among them the competition of Les Halles, Paris (with MVRDV), the design and construction of Parc JB Lebas at Lille and Falconsquare and the station square at Antwerp, Belgium. After winning the competion of a sculptural roof and bridge for Brugge and participating a series of bridge designs he takes the lead in design and realisation of a series of public spaces, architectural instalations, bridges and product designs. He is currently leading a variety of projects and gives the office’s urban and architectural theories practical credibility. Since 2001, he leads the master plan project for the station area for the city of Hasselt, currently under construction. Together with Adriaan Geuze he supervies this project.
Maarten van de Voorde combines a fine sense of design with a sharp business understanding and a good knowledge of all operational, technical and process aspects for the success of a project. He has carried teaching positions at different schools and universities such as St. Lucas, the academie for architecture and urban design at Brussels and Ghent, Belgium.
